The EMPOWERED project, led by the MUW, aims to strengthen medical education in the field of interpersonal, digital and AI-assisted communication. On February 5, a kick-off meeting was held at the MUW, attended by the representatives of our university, headed by the Vice Rector for International Relations, Promotion and Development, Prof. Michał Grąt and representatives of partner universities from: Ireland, Hungary and Romania.

Arteria lusoria is an anatomical variety of the aortic arch occurring in approximately 1-2% of the population. It consists in the congenital absence of the brachiocephalic trunk and a separate outlet from the aortic arch of the right subclavian artery. In the case of aortic arch pathology (aneurysm, dissection) in patients with this anomaly, technical treatment options are very limited, especially with modern minimally invasive methods. On January 12 and 13, specialists from our University performed the world's first two surgeries of the implantation of stent-grafts into the aortic arch with four branches in patients with arteria lusoria.

On January 20, 2026, under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, a ceremony was held to lay flowers on the grave of Stanisław Staszic. It was attended by representatives of state and local government authorities, as well as Prof. Rafał Krenke, the Rector of our university, and Prof. Dagmara Mirowska-Guzel, the Head of the Chair and Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology at MUW and the president of the Warsaw Scientific Society (WSS), which initiated the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Staszic's death.

As they do every year, representatives of the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of UCC MUW, together with invited guests, laid flowers on the graves of Prof. Zdzisław Askanas and his students: Prof. Leszek Ceremużyński, Prof. Tadeusz Kraska and Prof. Jerzy Kuch. Professor Askanas was the founder and first head of the 4th Department of Internal Medicine, currently the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at MUW, and the founder of the famous Warsaw Academic School of Cardiology.

The current issue includes interesting conversations with: Anna Kupczak, the chairperson of the MUW Student Government Board, on student organizations and everyday challenges, Prof. Tomasz Sapota about the Noctes Medicae publishing series, and with Łukasz Szeleszczuk, PharmD, PhD, from the Department of Physical Chemistry, the editor-in-chief of the journal "Prospects in Pharmaceutical Sciences".

Chest pain is one of the most common reasons patients present to the hospital. For the patient, it means fear and uncertainty. Meanwhile, the physician faces a rapid decision: are we dealing with a myocardial infarction, a life-threatening condition, or another, often much less dangerous, cause of the symptoms? The problem is that in the early stages, the symptoms can be very similar. And in myocardial infarction, time works against us. That is why in our project we are searching for a new warning signal, writes Ewelina Błażejowska, MD, a PhD candidate at the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology, UCK WUM.

On January 15, 2026, the Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Rare Diseases in Pediatric and Adult Nephrology at MUW organized a symposium with the participation of speakers of the following specialties: genetics, nephrology, pediatrics, diagnostics, pathology to enable the exchange of knowledge, presentation of current research and discussion on the practical aspects of the clinical management of patients with rare kidney diseases.

Tomasz Szostek, a PhD student from the Chair and Department of Biochemistry at the Medical University of Warsaw, is a co-author of a review article published in the prestigious international journal Drug Discovery Today.
