Clinical Pharmacy Student Scientific Society will carry out an educational project on the safe use of medicines

The project titled “CheckLek – safe use of medicines” has just received a grant of PLN 12,000 from the National Freedom Institute – Centre for Civil Society Development under the Government Youth Fund Programme for 2022–2033. The grant was awarded by the Our Future Foundation. Thanks to this funding, our students will build responsible attitudes among young people and strengthen their knowledge of pharmacotherapy safety.

The “CheckLek – safe use of medicines” project is a social and health-promoting initiative aimed at people under 29 years of age in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Students at WUM believe that building health awareness at an early stage of adulthood will translate into more responsible and safer use of pharmacotherapy in the future.

As part of the project, workshops have been planned on topics such as adverse drug reactions, the use of reliable sources of information about medicines, and the proper reporting of adverse effects. The workshops will take place in September at the Faculty of Pharmacy of WUM.

Who will implement the project

The team consists of pharmacy students who are also members of the Clinical Pharmacy Student Scientific Society (SKN) : Natalia Tęcza (chair of the club), Michał Piliszek, Apolonia Wensker, Wiktoria Banach, Anna Cieślik, Maja Grzeszczak, Kamila Lickindorf, Paulina Wawrowska, Magdalena Kiraga, Julia Augustyniak, and Katarzyna Kwiecień, as well as the society supervisor, Dr. hab. Magdalena Skarżyńska from the Department and Chair of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmaceutical Care, where the society is based.

“The impulse to create the project came from a simple observation that Poles very often and readily reach for over-the-counter medicines, while at the same time lacking knowledge about their possible side effects, interactions with other drugs, and the principles of their safe use,” explains Dr. hab. Magdalena Skarżyńska. “Monitoring the safety of pharmacotherapy and educating patients is one of the key areas of clinical pharmacy. This is exactly what the students of SKN Clinical Pharmacy are doing – teaching what to pay attention to and how to use medicines responsibly.”

The grant was awarded on June 23 at the Royal Castle. The grant was received on behalf of the WUM Student Scientific Society by Dr. hab. Magdalena Skarżyńska.
