WUM CePT expands cooperation with the City of Warsaw in education and health

The Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) hosted a meeting between representatives of WUM and the Centre for Preclinical Research and Technology (CePT) and representatives of the Education Office of the City of Warsaw, the Warsaw Centre for Educational and Social Innovation and Training, district education departments and Warsaw secondary schools. The discussions focused on opportunities to develop joint educational, popularizing, and health promotion initiatives aimed at young people, teachers, and the school community.

The meeting was another step in strengthening cooperation between our university and the City of Warsaw, based on an agreement signed several years ago.
Currently, CePT WUM is becoming involved in activities within the partnership, seeking to use its scientific, research and expert potential in response to the needs of the city and its residents.

The potential of the university and its leader

The Centre for Preclinical Research and Technology (CePT) is one of the largest biomedical and biotechnology initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe. It is formed by a consortium of leading universities and research institutes equipped with state-of-the-art research infrastructure and teams of specialists in the area of medical, biomedical, and technological sciences. This potential can support the city in areas including health education, prophylaxis, science popularization, development of young people’s competences and fostering an interest in medical professions and health sciences.

Objectives of the cooperation

The collaboration is intended to be practical and long-term. Its goal is to create a platform for dialogue between academia, local government and schools, and also developing joint initiatives that will acquaint young people in Warsaw with the world of modern medicine, scientific research and innovation.
For WUM and CePT, this is also an important aspect of the university’s social responsibility and of strengthening relations with the city in which it operates and educates future healthcare professionals.

The course of the meeting

The July visit began with a meeting between the guests - led by Joanna Gospodarczyk, Director of the Warsaw Education Office - and Prof. Marcin Sobczak, Vice-Rector for Research and Technology Transfer; Beata Piekutowska, Director of CePT; and Marcin Kaczor ,MD, PhD, Director of the Medical Simulation Centre (CSM) at WUM, together with members of the Centre's staff.

The visitors had an opportunity to learn about the Medical Simulation Centre, its modern teaching infrastructure, and explore its capabilities for practical classes and educational demonstrations.

During the second part of the meeting, Agnieszka Wlazłowska-Pietrzak, Head of the WUM Communications and Promotion Office, outlined the university's future plans and opportunities for cooperation with secondary schools. Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, former long-serving Director of the Polish Medical Air Rescue Service, and an expert in emergency medical preparedness and support, delivered a lecture entitled "Tactical and Emergency Medicine." The lectures and meetings were an opportunity to talk about possible forms of cooperation between the university and  schools and municipal institutions.
