Our Researcher with a Grant in the MINIATURA 10 Competition

Dr. Karol Momot from the Department and Chair of Physiology and Pathophysiology at WUM has received funding from the National Science Centre for a pilot study concerning a new diagnostic method for heart diseases.

The pilot study entitled “Plasma lipidomic profiling as a potential ‘liquid biopsy’ of epicardial adipose tissue in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction” received funding of PLN 49,995.00.

The aim of the study is to identify specific lipid metabolism pathways which are associated with inflammation of the adipose tissue surrounding the heart (epicardial adipose tissue, EAT), as well as with atrial remodeling and functional abnormalities.
The results will be interpreted in the context of known biological mechanisms, such as macrophage activation, mitochondrial stress, and cardiac fibrosis. In the future, the study may contribute to the development of more precise therapies modulating EAT inflammation.
