Focus on MUW - 2026

As they do every year, representatives of the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of UCC MUW, together with invited guests, laid flowers on the graves of Prof. Zdzisław Askanas and his students: Prof. Leszek Ceremużyński, Prof. Tadeusz Kraska and Prof. Jerzy Kuch. Professor Askanas was the founder and first head of the 4th Department of Internal Medicine, currently the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at MUW, and the founder of the famous Warsaw Academic School of Cardiology.

Chest pain is one of the most common reasons patients present to the hospital. For the patient, it means fear and uncertainty. Meanwhile, the physician faces a rapid decision: are we dealing with a myocardial infarction, a life-threatening condition, or another, often much less dangerous, cause of the symptoms? The problem is that in the early stages, the symptoms can be very similar. And in myocardial infarction, time works against us. On January 15, 2026, the Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Rare Diseases in Pediatric and Adult Nephrology at MUW organized a symposium with the participation of speakers of the following specialties: genetics, nephrology, pediatrics, diagnostics, pathology to enable the exchange of knowledge, presentation of current research and discussion on the practical aspects of the clinical management of patients with rare kidney diseases.

Tomasz Szostek, a PhD student from the Chair and Department of Biochemistry at the Medical University of Warsaw, is a co-author of a review article published in the prestigious international journal Drug Discovery Today.
