A practical training session on how to evacuate and provide assistance to people with disabilities took place at the Center for Medical Simulation WUM. It was led by Florian's Angels Fire Brigade.
The format of the training was exceptional because people with disabilities were asked to participate. The Florian's Angels Association provides support to people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Thanks to their presence, training participants had the opportunity to become familiar with practical problems that might occur during an emergency.
The training at WUM was combined with the presentation of the Center for Medical Simulation and solutions supporting the accessibility and safety of the users of this facility.
“The accessibility of the building is more than just ramps, elevators or appropriate signage. In case of an emergency, well-prepared people, proper procedures and practical experience are equally important. That is why we want to learn not only about the needs of people with disabilities, but also together with them,” emphasized Marcin Kowalczyk, the Head of the Department for Occupational and Environmental Protection at the Medical University of Warsaw, who organized the training.
WUM is developing measures aimed at improving the safety of everyone using the facilities of the university, particularly accommodating the needs of people requiring additional support during evacuation.
