Focus on MUW - 2025
The Polish Clinical Scholars Research Training is developed and conducted by Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Education in cooperation with the Medical Research Agency (ABM). The second edition included 100 Polish scientists and researchers who developed key competencies in planning and conducting clinical research and gained practical knowledge essential for analyzing, interpreting, and publishing results. Among them, a significant group consisted of WUM staff.
Several boxes full of colorful, hand-knitted hats were delivered to children in the oncology and hematology wards of the DSK UCK WUM hospital. They were donated by volunteers from the “Hat from the heart” project to cheer up patients and bring smiles to their faces.
Prof. Michał Grąt and Prof. Roman Danielewicz took part in a conference addressing issues related to international cooperation and the legal conditions governing the procurement and transplantation of organs and tissues. The conference took place on November 18 in Brussels.
Adrian Bendarek, a fifth-year medical student and a doctoral student at 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the Medical University of Warsaw, is participating in the prestigious Emerging Leaders program organized by the World Heart Federation (WHF). This is a major distinction, as he is the only student among the 25 individuals invited to participate in the program.
The topics discussed at the event included the role of biobanks in the development of scientific research, as well as the regulations and challenges faced by the community working in this incredibly important field. The conference was organized by our University thanks to the support from the Minister of Science, as part of the project titled “Developing the Polish Biobanking Network within BBMRI-ERIC”.
The funds will go to the University Clinical Center WUM as part of the National Recovery Plan and will be used to modernize the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Transplant Surgery and the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology with the Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Venous Thromboembolic Disease.
Medical education in Warsaw has been ongoing for 216 years! To commemorate the day it began—November 15, 1809—the authorities and employees of our university lay flowers at the stone obelisk located on the Banacha Campus. Beneath the obelisk, a message was embedded with a solemn declaration about educating and teaching academic youth, as well as providing assistance to all the sick and needy, along with the motto of service "To People and the Homeland."
On November 11, the Varsoviada final took place. This sports event, organized by AZS Warsaw, brings together first-year students from universities across the capital, with nearly 1,000 participants in this year’s games. Traditionally, the highlight of the event is the rector’s triathlon. This year, our rector, Prof. Rafał Krenke, competed alongside leaders from Warsaw universities.
In late October, representatives of the Medical University of Warsaw visited Universidad del Quindío in Colombia in order to work on the research partnership initiated in Warsaw several months before. The visit, which included lectures, a hybrid seminar, and meetings with local communities, has strengthened the cooperation in the areas of environmental health, tropical diseases, and the One Health approach.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice invited our representatives to a gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first successful heart transplant in Poland. The event was attended by: Rector Prof. Rafał Krenke, Prof. Michał Grąt, Vice Rector for International Relations, Development and Promotion, Head of the Chair and Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery, as well as Prof. Mariusz Kuśmierczyk, Head of the Department of Heart, Thoracic and Transplant Surgery.
