A hundred years ago, on May 2, 1921, upon the motion of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine UW, Józef Piłsudski was awarded an honorary doctorate - the highest academic dignity awarded to persons of outstanding merit. This was the first title awarded in the more than 200-year history of our university.
- As the old Confucian saying goes: even the farthest road begins with the first step! Today we take this step into the future together. Please remember that you are beginning your studies at a university with over two hundred years of tradition - said the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dariusz Bialoszewski, MD, PhD, MUW professor , during the matriculation of students of our youngest faculty.
Our university community has grown by another 1,412 students - on October 8, the matriculation ceremony took place at the Faculty of Health Sciences, during which the students beginning their education at: nursing, midwifery, medical rescue, dietetics and public health, took the solemn oath.
The young patients of the Duchess Anna Mazowiecka Clinical Hospital and their caregivers are the first in Poland to be able to use a special free app that allows live streaming of newborns. The "#eye on a baby" initiative has been appreciated by the K.I.D.S. Foundation (Children's Hospital Innovators Club), which handed the hospital in Karowa Street an award in the "Children's Hospital of the Future" competition in the digitalization category.
- Today 264 new students will join the Medical University of Warsaw. It is your great success, because getting into our university is not easy. Without a doubt, you are the best of the best - said Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of the MUW to the first-year students of Medical Analytics and Pharmacy gathered in the Prof. Janusz Piekarczyk Lecture Hall.
Andrzej Ochal from the Department of Rehabilitation of the MUW was awarded high state distinctions for his activity for the benefit of Polish sport. As a coach of the National Team of Disabled People of the Polish Table Tennis Federation he contributed to the success of Polish athletes, who brought home 7 medals from the Paralympic Games: 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze, thus taking 4th place in the medal classification.
Nearly 700 first-year students of medicine officially began their studies at the Medical University of Warsaw. During the matriculation ceremony, they took a solemn oath in the presence of the university authorities.
“To persevere in the pursuit of knowledge and the development of our personalities, and by all our conduct to uphold the dignity and honor of the students of the Medical University of Warsaw” - newly admitted students of the Faculty of Dental Medicine took their oaths today. They were officially welcomed, in the presence of the university authorities, by the Dean of the Faculty - Prof. Dorota Olczak-Kowalczyk and the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education - Prof. Marek Kuch.
- Today is your special day. You have become members of the WMU’s community forever. You are the best of the best. Out of 12,260 senior high school graduates who applied for the student’s book of our university, 2,821 people have been admitted. I congratulate you very much on this success, said the Rector of the WMU, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, during the ceremonial Inauguration of the Academic Year 2021/2022, which took place in the Prof. Janusz Piekarczyk Lecture Hall at the Teaching Center.
- The value of any university is the fact that it is founded on knowledge. You will create this knowledge and you will have to use it, said Prof. Bolesław Samoliński, the Chairman of the Council of the Discipline of health sciences, to new doctors and habilitated doctors who, on October 2, received diplomas confirming their first or subsequent scientific degrees in the discipline of health science.
