Women are great, committed and passionate researchers. Their role in science cannot be overestimated. However, they are still less likely than men to earn the professorial title or occupy the highest positions at universities. It may be due to a myth, which we want to debunk, that academic career and personal life are incompatible. On the occasion of today's International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we give the floor to our women scientists. WUM female professors argue that different life roles may be reconciled and one should never give up.

We collected exactly PLN 82,584.56. We achieved this impressive total thanks to people with big hearts who supported our campaign “The WUM community for WOŚP.” They bid in auctions, donated through the e-piggy bank, and contributed to the stationary collection boxes during the Grand Finale at the CSR WUM.

Neoplastic diseases are one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century worldwide. It is estimated that currently in Poland over a million people are before, during or after oncological treatment. To bring encouragement, courage and smiles to all those struggling with neoplastic diseases, on February 4, the Department of Oncology UCC MUW organized a moving experience – the Music for Life concert at the Didactic Center of our university. The event was attended by the Minister of Health, Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda.

This is a very unusual place. Here, palliatively-treated patients may pass away with dignity, and their needs, not only physical, but also mental and spiritual ones, are noticed and met. Katarzyna Kęcka, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Health visited the Department of Palliative Medicine at MUW, talked to the patients, staff, and volunteers who help care for the sick. The visit was an opportunity to take a closer look at how such a department operates on a daily basis and what challenges it has to face.
