For the first time in Poland, a liver transplant has been performed using pre-existing perfusion under normothermia. The organ came from a deceased donor. The procedure was carried out by a team of transplant surgeons led by Professor Michal Grêt at the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery, MUW.

HeartInsight analyses parameters that indicate an exacerbation of heart failure. And when its risk appears in a patient, the algorithm sends an appropriate alert to the doctor. This innovative solution was the first in Poland to be used by specialists from the First Chair and Department of Cardiology of the UCK MUW in two patients suffering from a severe form of this condition.

A remarkable exhibition on ancient Greek medicine is on display at our university. As the authors of the opening from the MUW Museum of the History of Medicine emphasise, it was during this time that medicine not only began to develop, but also became an evidence-based science.

Three years after her lung transplant, 22-year-old Patricia became pregnant. The patient was prepared for it and monitored during it by specialists from the Silesian Medical University. The delivery took place at the MUW University Centre for Women’s and New-born Health. A caesarean section was performed. The mother and her daughter Pola are feeling well.

Funds from the National Science Centre will go to them as part of the OPUS 23 and PRELUDIUM 21 competitions. They will be awarded to: prof. Magdalena Kucia, prof. Mariusz Ratajczak, prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, M.D. Anna Nowak and Dr. Marcin Jasinski. The projects they will carry out thanks to the funding will address the topics of stem cells, acute pulmonary embolism, SGLT2 inhibitors and the gut microbiota.
