On Saturday, the 26th edition of the “Run for a New Life” took place, with numerous specialists from the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW) participating, including the Rector, Professor Rafał Krenke. On the eve of the event, the “Second Life” awards were presented to: Professor Michał Grąt, Head of the Department and Clinic of General, Transplant, and Liver Surgery at the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw (UCC MUW), in the category “Personality of Polish Transplantology”, and Dr. Zygmunt Kaliciński, from the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Transplant Surgery at UCC MUW, in the category “Active for Transplantation”.

Each year, the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) awards 100 prestigious START scholarships to outstanding young researchers under the age of 30, representing all fields of science. This year’s competition received 725 applications. Among the scholarship recipients are Przemysław Kasiak, a sixth-year medical student and doctoral candidate at the 3rd Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and Dr. Aleksander Ślusarczyk, a physician and research and teaching assistant at the Department of General, Oncological and Functional Urology.

The two universities plan to continue their collaboration in the fields of science, research, and education, including academic exchange, joint training programs for teaching and research staff, and the organization of internships. The memorandum was signed by Professor Rafał Krenke, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, and Professor Roman Yatsyshyn, Rector of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.

The “Transplantation Horizons: Innovations and Insights” conference, organized by the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW), has come to a successful close. The event was aimed at doctoral students, researchers, and MUW students. Over the course of two days, participants had the opportunity to explore key issues in transplantation medicine. The conference featured eight experts from Mayo Clinic, as well as specialists from our university. The event was made possible thanks to funding from the STER NAWA program as part of the project “International Future of the Doctoral School at MUW,” marking the beginning of long-term cooperation between MUW and Mayo Clinic. The next meeting with U.S. experts is scheduled for next year.

On 23 April, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, presented acts of nomination to academic teachers as well as scientists and artists. The group of distinguished recipients also included the representatives of our University: Professor Magdalena Januszewicz, Head of the 2nd Department of Clinical Radiology, and Professor Maria Radziwoń-Zaleska of the Chair and Department of Psychiatry.

We are deeply shaken by the events that unfolded at the university hospital in Kraków yesterday [on 29 April]. Tomasz Solecki, MD, was murdered at work while serving his patients as he always did. This is something that should never have happened.
