The proposed evaluation results confirm the quality of our scientific activity and its significant social significance. They provide the university with opportunities for further scientific and educational development, as they influence such areas as the authorization to offer degree programs and doctoral programs, awarding degrees and academic titles, as well as the amount of subsidies allocated from the state budget.
What the evaluation of the quality of scientific activity involves
The evaluation is carried out by the Science Evaluation Committee based on three criteria:
- The scientific or artistic level of the conducted scientific activity – assessed on the basis of scientific articles, monographs, editing of monographs and the authorship of chapters in monographs, as well as granted patents for inventions.
- Financial outcomes of scientific research and development activities – assessed on the basis of the amount of funding secured for research projects through competitions organized by EU and foreign institutions, National Center for Research and Development (NCBR), National Science Center (NCN), or Medical Research Agency (ABM). The criterion also comprises the commercialization of research results or development activities, as well as research carried out on behalf of entities outside the higher education and science sectors.
- The impact of scientific activity on the functioning of the society and economy – assessed based on description and evidence confirming the relationship between research conducted and changes, e.g., in healthcare.
The evaluation covers universities, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and international scientific institutes that employ at least 12 researchers in a given discipline. The evaluation is based on the achievements of people representing a given discipline, and results in the assignment of one of five scientific categories: A+, A, B+, B or C.
