The event was a moment to summarize the achievements of the Department, recall its history and reflect on the development of Polish endocrinology over the past few decades. It was attended by current and former employees of the Department, representatives of the authorities of the University and University Clinical Center WUM, representatives of cooperating scientific centers and invited guests.
During the meeting, the participants recalled the beginnings of the Department, established on April 1, 1991 on the initiative of Prof. Janusz Nauman, MD, PhD. The earliest years of the department's operation were recalled. It was built thanks to the commitment and passion of a team, which, despite modest conditions, created one of the most important endocrinology centers in Poland. The enormous contribution of Prof. Ewa Bar-Andziak in the development of the Department and the continuation of its scientific and teaching activities was highlighted.
The meeting was also an opportunity to recall the most important scientific achievements of the team, including research on thyroid diseases, Graves' disease and thyroid orbitopathy, endocrine tumors, hormonal disorders and prevention of iodine deficiency in Poland. Special attention was paid to research activities carried out in cooperation with domestic and foreign scientific centers and projects that exerted a significant impact on the development of Polish endocrinology.
During the anniversary, it was repeatedly emphasized that people were the strength of the Department from the very beginning – physicians, scientists, nurses, laboratory workers, teacher and all colleagues who, over the past 35 years, have built its reputation and an atmosphere of mutual commitment. The ceremony also paid tribute to those who are no longer with us but who have left a lasting mark in the history of the department.
The anniversary celebrations were not only an opportunity to look back at the rich history of the Department, but also a time to reflect on its future development and prospects. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of gratitude, reminiscence and pride in the achievements of many generations of employees associated with the Chair and Department of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology WUM.
