The project titled “CheckLek – safe use of medicines” has just received a grant of PLN 12,000 from the National Freedom Institute – Centre for Civil Society Development under the Government Youth Fund Programme for 2022–2033. The grant was awarded by the Our Future Foundation. Thanks to this funding, our students will build responsible attitudes among young people and strengthen their knowledge of pharmacotherapy safety.

The prevention of harm to young children, early identification of risks, and the role of adults in building safe relationships were the key topics of the 18th Nationwide Conference “Careful – Child!”, which brought together specialists working with families and children in the early years of life.

Piotr Kaszczewski from the Chair and Department of General, Vascular, Endocrine, and Transplant Surgery at WUM, headed by Prof. Zbigniew Gałązka, has been awarded the Professor Zdzisław Boroń Prize for the best habilitation thesis in the field of ultrasonography, defended in 2024–2025.

This novel procedure was performed by a team from the Department of Cardiology at the University Clinical Center, WUM, in two adults suffering from severe insufficiency of the pulmonary valve (i.e. the structure between the right ventricle and the pulmonary trunk). The implantable bioprosthetic valves ideally conform to the anatomical structure of the patient’s heart, which reduces the risk of such complications as paravalvular leaks.

The National Science Centre (NCN) has announced the results of the latest rounds of the OPUS and SONATA research project competitions. Three of the winning projects were submitted by our researchers: Dr Marek Konop, Dr Marcin Równicki and Dr Katarzyna Głuchowska. The projects focus on the treatment of diabetic wounds, the prediction of kidney cancer and skin diseases. WUM will also implement a project aimed at building a system for the efficient production of valuable, pharmaceutically useful secondary plant metabolites. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Warsaw. WUM is represented by Prof. Katarzyna Sykłowska-Baranek.

The Center for Rare Liver Diseases has been operating for nearly 10 years within the Department of Hepatology, Transplantology and Internal Medicine with the Rare Liver Disease Unit at UCK WUM. Since its establishment, the Center has been led by Prof. Piotr Milkiewicz. The Center is part of the European Reference Network (ERN) RARE-LIVER.

The association brings together students and young physicians from across Poland who share a passion for cardiology. On June 9, new authorities of the organization were elected for the 2026–2028 term. Adrian Bednarek was appointed as President of the Board, while Dominika Tomkiel became a Board Member. Both are medical students at the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) and members of the Student Scientific Club at the 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology, University Clinical Center of WUM.

Together with seven European universities, the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) is carrying out an important project known by the acronym “eRaDicate”. As part of the project, eleven PhD students are developing the skills needed to work on new anticancer therapies. The project’s third training course has just taken place at WUM’s Library and Information Center, bringing together PhD candidates, their supervisors, and project advisors.

Can substances produced by bees become an inspiration for modern medicine? Do bee venom, propolis or apiair have potentials worth exploring in the context of modern health challenges? What is apitherapy (apis = bee + therapy)? We will be looking into this because an educational and research apiary has been set up on our campus.
