The picnic promotes a healthy lifestyle, and our students, under the supervision of Dr. Aleksandra Kozłowska, Dr. Katarzyna Lewtak and Oleksandra Kertychak, proved that preventive health care is very necessary, plus - it does not have to be boring at all.
SKN Hygiene and Prevention operates at the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health, Headed by Professor Aneta Nitsch-Osuch.
Microbes, soap and UV magic that is learning through play
The Club created a health zone for the whole family in its picnic tent. It was very interactive.
In the section on microbes, students told children and their parents about bacteria and viruses, the diseases they cause and how to protect themselves from them. Among other things, children were able to learn about why it's a good idea to cover your face when sneezing, and that not all bacteria are bad!
In the hand hygiene area, young and old could check if they disinfected their hands as well as a doctor does before surgery. With the help of fluorescent hand disinfectant and a special UV lamp (“magic lamp”), students showed where germs lurk that are invisible to the naked eye. Some hands glowed like Christmas trees, but after a brief training in hand disinfection techniques, everyone was ready for duty in the operating room.
There was also an area dedicated to body composition analysis. The composition was measured using the non-invasive electrical bioimpedance method. The results were then discussed in detail and suggestions were given on how to take care of diet, movement and health.
The scientific club also organized contests with prizes, quizzes, puzzles and surprises.
The picnic was held on May 31 at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
