Our students returned from the Polish Academic Championships in Athletics with a haul of medals

They brought back 13 medals and a bronze trophy – our men’s team took third place on the podium in the medical universities category!

The Polish Academic Championships in Athletics took place from May 23 to 25. Over the course of three days, more than 1,400 athletes from 94 universities across the country competed at the Golęcin athletics stadium in Poznań. The competition was fierce, which made the success of our track and field athletes all the more rewarding.

The championships were held in a friendly atmosphere and in the spirit of fair play. A total of 17 women’s events and 18 men’s events were contested, including the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000-meter races, two relay races, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, triple jump, pole vault, and hammer throw.

What our athletes achieved and in which events

The Medical University of Warsaw was represented by 15 students. Many of them achieved new personal bests during the competition. As for the podium finishes:

  • Pola Siewierska won two gold medals in the medical universities category –in the triple jump and long jump;
  • Krzysztof Bartoś claimed gold in the 3000 m and silver in the 1500 m, both in the medical universities category;
  • Paweł Jańczak won silver in the 800 m and gold in the 400 m, also in the medical universities category;
  • Jakub Żmuda earned a silver medal in the 200 m and a bronze in the 400 m, both in the medical universities category;
  • Julia Stateczna achieved the longest javelin throw among competitors from medical universities;
  • Ignacy Sakiewicz took gold in the 400 m hurdles and bronze in the 3000 m, both in the medical universities category;
  • The men’s 4x400 m relay team consisting of Ignacy Sakiewicz, Krzysztof Bartoś, Paweł Jańczak, and Jakub Żmuda finished second in the medical universities category;
  • And the icing on the cake: in the overall team classification of medical universities, our men’s team took third place on the podium!

Other athletes representing MUW included: Vladislav Duda, Rafał Zabłoński, Marta Jackowicz, Maria Sirocka, Weronika Tyszko, Magdalena Romanowska, Bruno Naskręt, Weronika Wajdyk, and Jan Karcz, all of whom delivered strong performances and excellent results.
