MUW students with awards for the most active IFMSA-Poland members
Dominika Zajkowska, Katarzyna Camlet, Zofia Gajek, Grzegorz Łopiński, Natalia Niedziela, Nikola Siekierko – they are the MUW students and members of IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch who received the prestigious Zbigniew Ehrmann awards. The distinction is awarded by IFMSA-Poland during the annual Delegate Assembly. They are given to those who are most diligent and involved in the Association's activities.

Professor Kazimierz Niemczyk, Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Medical University of Warsaw, received the second honorary doctorate this year, Honorary Professor of the Astana Medical University (AMU).

Dr hab. Mariusz Tomaniak was recognised for his series of publications: New strategies for anti-platelet pharmacotherapy after percutaneous coronary intervention in a patient population at high risk of ischaemic and haemorrhagic complications.

Prof. Tomasz Bednarczuk from the Department of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology has developed recommendations for the management of thyroid disorders caused by iodine contrast agents.
Dr Wacław Mayzel Medical Laurels Awarded
The Polish Academy of Sciences has awarded the Dr Wacław Mayzel Medical Laurels. The honorary distinction of the 5th Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for students working scientifically for a highly evaluated published work carried out before obtaining a university diploma went to Anna Helena Mazurek and Piotr Krawczyk - representatives of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw.

Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk coordinated the development of principles of management of patients after an episode of acute pulmonary embolism. These recommendations express the official position of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).
Pioneering liver transplant in a patient with biliary tract cancer
Using the Mayo Clinic's specialist preoperative protocol, a liver transplant could be performed on a patient with biliary tract cancer. The implementation of the protocol was handled by our specialists from the Department of Hepatology and Internal Medicine and the Department of Oncology. The transplant procedure took place in the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery. The patient feels well.
Dr n. med. Aleksandra Gąsecka-van der Pol
During the recent congress, the Polish Lipid Society presented three special prizes and three distinctions to young doctors who care for patients with lipid disorders and carry out research work in lipidology and atherosclerosis. Dr n. med. Aleksandra Gąsecka-van der Pol, from the First Chair and Department of Cardiology at the Medical University of Warsaw, was among the laureates. In particular, her work focusing on understanding the interaction between EVs and plasma lipoproteins and adipocytes was recognised, which could revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Thinking of the hard-working ambulance teams who work at top speed to save people’s health and lives in the age of pandemics, students from the Clinical Nutrition Society Student Scientific Association of the Medical University of Warsaw organised a campaign entitled “Doceń medyka” (Appreciate a medic). Thanks to the initiative, they were able to equip the ambulance stations with 19 kilograms of coffee beans, over 40 litres of milk and vegetable drinks, as well as 1,000 tea bags and 10 kilograms of sugar. The action was awarded in the “Pro Juvenes” competition organised by the Polish Students’ Parliament.
