“Doceń medyka” social initiative with an award from the Polish Students’ Parliament

Thinking of the hard-working ambulance teams who work at top speed to save people’s health and lives in the age of pandemics, students from the Clinical Nutrition Society Student Scientific Association of the Medical University of Warsaw organised a campaign entitled “Doceń medyka” (Appreciate a medic). Thanks to the initiative, they were able to equip the ambulance stations with 19 kilograms of coffee beans, over 40 litres of milk and vegetable drinks, as well as 1,000 tea bags and 10 kilograms of sugar. The action was awarded in the “Pro Juvenes” competition organised by the Polish Students’ Parliament.

The “Pro Juvenes” competition, which has been organised since 2013, aims to promote active students and their initiatives and highlight the merits of individuals and entities that are student-friendly and support the potential of young people. “Doceń medyka” was nominated for the award in the “Social initiatives” category and four other projects. As a result of an online vote, it turned out to be the best one.

- The “Doceń medyka” campaign had a unique value for us. On the one hand, as citizens who want to feel safe and cared for, the tremendous effort of health care in the fight against a pandemic is appreciated. On the other hand, we are, or soon will be, members of the medical profession. We want our female colleagues to feel supported by us. Even if it was to be such a small gesture, which they found extremely necessary at such a difficult time,” said Agata Fusiarz, president of the Clinical Nutrition Student Scientific Association.

The students organised a collection for the purchase via zrzutka.pl. The student community has been hugely supportive. The action was held in agreement with Warsaw’s “Meditrans” Provincial Ambulance and Sanitary Transport Station.
