On November 6th, at the Department of General, Vascular and Transplant Surgery, chaired by prof. Sławomir Nazarewski, an autotransplantation of a transplanted kidney with an extracorporeal vascular reconstruction was perfromed. The procedure was unique on a global scale, and possible due to unusual combination of mastery both in transplant and vascular surgery techniques.
On Thursday, November 14, on the eve of the 210th anniversary of teaching medicine in Warsaw, the university, faculty and administrative authorities laid flowers under a stone Obelisk, commemorating the beginnings of existence of our university.
The team from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology, chaired by prof. Grzegorz Opolski, joined a small group of european medical centres performing ablation with the support of ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
On October 28th, 2019, Professor Marek Krawczyk – former Rector of our University and a professor at the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery, as well as, former President of the Polish Transplant Society and President of the Polish Surgeons Society, received the American College of Surgeons Honorary Fellowship during the Clinical Congress 2019 in San Francisco, California. Professor Krawczyk is the fourth Polish who has received this title since 1913, when the American College of Surgeons was founded.
On October 28th, Hidehiko Maruyama, MD, PhD, from the National Center for Child Health and Development in Tokyo shared his knowledge and experience with MUW students and faculty in his lecture “Short-term outcome of preterm infants”. The lecture took place in the Pediatric Teaching Clinical Hospital.
Piotr H. Skarżyński, PhD hab., from the Department of Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation at Medical University of Warsaw was elected to the prestigious WHO Roster of Experts for Digital Health. The advisory group will provide high-level global strategic advice and support to the WHO Secretariat in developing its digital health vision and strategy.
Tomasz Książczyk, MD, from MUW's Department of Pediatric Cardiology and General Pediatrics, received the title in recognition of having completed his 1,5 year internship at Royal Brompton Hospital.
On October 22, Prof. Lidia Rudnicka, Deputy Rector for Internationalization, Promotion and Development met with Prof. Modise Zacharia Koto, Head of General Surgery at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Pretoria. Prof. Koto is also an executive member of the College of Surgeons of South Africa and a consultant for the government of South African.
On October 21, Professor Jolanta Małyszko’s election for a position in the Executive Committee of KDIGO was confirmed. Prof. Małyszko, from the Department of Nephrology, Dialysis and Internal Diseases at MUW, is the only polish representative in the 20-person management body of KDIGO.
