Order no. 272/2020 of the Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw

ORDER NO. 272/2020
OF THE RECTOR
OF THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW

of November 30, 2020

amending the Order no. 193/2020 of the Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw of September 24, 2020 on the organization of classes at studies, doctoral studies, doctoral school, postgraduate studies, courses and training, and the organization of credits and exams, in the winter semester of the academic year 2020 / 2021 in connection with the COVID-19 epidemic.

Based on Article. 23 sec. 1 and art. 67 sec. 4 of the Act of July 20, 2018 Law on Higher Education and Science (i.e. Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended) and § 1 sec. 4 of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of October 16, 2020 on the temporary limitation of the functioning of medical universities in connection with preventing, counteracting and combating Covid-19 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1833), as well as § 12 para. 7 of the Statute of the Medical University of Warsaw, it is ordered as follows:

Amendments are made to the Order No. 193/2020 of September 24, 2020 as amended by Order No. 220/2020 of October 16, 2020 and Order No. 258/2020 of November 13, 2020 in the following areas:

                                                                                                                                                                                § 1

1. Pursuant to the principles set out in this Order, additional possibilities are introduced to make changes to the organization of classes at studies in the academic year 2020/2021, in particular practical classes, including clinical classes, and classes that develop practical skills. The above is justified by the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic, as a result of which the organization of exercises and classes in the stationary (contact) form is very limited, and consequently there are arrears in their implementation. These are classes that cannot be conducted with the use of distance education methods and techniques due to the generally applicable regulations in the field of education standards preparing to perform medical professions.

2. Students are allowed to make up for the outstanding exercises and classes referred to in section 1 - with the consent of the head of the department - during medical duty hours and during weeks free from other didactic activities, and if necessary, also during the winter and summer holiday break, but not later than by the end of the academic year. Making up the classes must not interfere with attendance at other compulsory classes, and making up the classes must be compatible with the relevant learning outcomes.

3. Students in their final years of study have priority in making up for outstanding practical classes/classes.

4. Students in isolation or quarantine should be allowed to make up for outstanding practical classes/classes. The method, form and date of making up for the backlog are determined by the head of the department or the course coordinator. The students must make up for the backlog by the end of the academic year.

5. In case of shifting the hours of classes, seminars or lectures between the winter and summer semesters in line with the department’s annual didactic plan in a course ending with an exam in the winter session, it is allowed - with the consent of the head of the department or the subject coordinator - the student to take the exam planned in the winter session in this subject, even if the date of the classes referred to in sec. 1, was postponed to a period later than the examination date scheduled in the session. Before being admitted to the exam in the winter session, the student is required to pass the theoretical part of the material from the subject.

6. In the situation referred to in par. 5, the final completion of the course takes place after passing the examination and completing compulsory classes postponed beyond the date on which the examination was held.

7. In case of shifting the hours of classes, seminars or lectures between the winter and summer semesters in line with the department’s  annual didactic plan for a course ending with an examination, it is allowed to postpone the examination date to a retake session as the first attempt.

8. In remaining areas not regulated by this Order, the provisions of Order No. 193/2020 of the Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw of September24, 2020 as amended by Order No. 220/2020 of October 16, 2020 and Order No. 258/2020 of 13 November 2020 shall apply.

                                                                                                                                                                                  § 2

1. In regard to the provisions of § 1, the title of Order No. 193/2020 of September 24, 2020 has been changed, which shall read as follows:
"Order on the organization of classes at studies, doctoral studies, in a doctoral school, postgraduate studies, courses and training, as well as the organization of credits and exams, in the academic year 2020/2021 in connection with the COVID-19 epidemic."

2. The Order shall enter into force on the day of its signature.
