Medical students practice cardiac surgery skills

Vascular anastomosis (bypass) using a specialized simulator is a task that medical students participating in the 9th edition of the practical cardiac surgery course had to perform on their own.

During the exercises, the students used a specialized Arroyo simulator, recommended by the European Society for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery for resident training. At the same time, each workshop participant had the opportunity to work with a natural pig heart placed in a special tripod. The main organizer and workshop leader was Radosław Wilimski, MD, PhD, from the Department of Cardiac Surgery, UCC MUW. The anatomical part was supervised by Dr. Kacper Nowak and Dr. Paweł Kowalczyk from the Jan Kielanowski Institute of Animal Physiology and Nutrition of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In order to achieve higher quality visualization of the presented procedure, the organizers used for the first time a professional camera Visual Presenter L-12W (ELMO) in the instructional part.
Practice materials were provided by Johnson & Johnson.
