We played for WOŚP and children’s tummies

The 34th Finale is behind us. This year, the Orchestra played to improve the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in the youngest patients. And we played along with it. Once again, we organized the "MUW Community for WOŚP" campaign and collected funds for the purchase of necessary medical equipment.

You could add money to our cans during an unusual event that was held on the day of the finale at the MUW Sports and Rehabilitation Center, as well as by participating in auctions organized by our students and employees, or by using the e-cash box. How much did we manage to raise? We are still counting, but we are sure that we raised more than last year!

This is not only a fundraiser for medical equipment and devices, but also a great integrating activity" said Prof. Rafał Krenke, the Rector of MUW, during the Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity at the Sports and Rehabilitation Center. "I think that we all feel it by participating in the actions organized by the WOŚP, in the collection centre and in the actions of the WOŚP organized by the MUW. It is extremely important that, at the Medical University of Warsaw, among medical professionals, we use the equipment for which WOŚP raises funds, and we are also part of the WOŚP community. It gives us immense satisfaction to use the equipment when working with patients. And by participating in such events as today, we show that we do not want to be just passive recipients of such gifts, but we are with WOŚP and we try to be active supporters of its activities. I would like to thank all the participants and organizers, all those who devoted this Sunday to be with us" concluded the Rector.

MUW Community for WOŚP

This year, we again had a collection centre, which was organized by our students from the IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch. As every year, the entire campaign "MUW Community for WOŚP" was also organized by: MUW Student Government, Faculty Student Councils, PTSS Warsaw Branch, AZS Warsaw, AZS MUW and the MUW Sports and Rehabilitation Center with the support of the MUW Communication and Promotion Office.

Children and adults from Warsaw and far away, from our university and organizations and companies cooperating with the Sports and Rehabilitation Center MUW, could spend the Sunday Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in our state-of-the-art sports facility. Thanks to our employees and students, we managed to prepare over 90 auctions! The list included a model of the world's smallest pacemaker, books, a rock climbing trip, immunological training, home-made apple pie, cycling training, dietary advice.

Activities available at the Sports and Rehabilitation Center at MUW

Water sports enthusiasts could participate, for example, in the swimming challenge at 100 and 200 meters, water jumping training or aqua aerobics. On the water, you could also see experts in freestyle kayaking, who demonstrated loops, cartwheels and other acrobatic figures. Dance fans put themselves through the hoops during Zumba, and endurance sports enthusiasts – in triathlon. Those were just some of the sports attractions one could join.

The youngest participants could use an inflatable obstacle course, participate in model making workshops and flying model shows. Children could also turn into doctors of the Teddy Bear Hospital and help their stuffed animals, which turned into hospital patients on that day. Children performed medical procedures under the supervision of students.

The program also included preventive tests and advice, such as blood pressure and blood sugar measurement, analysis of body composition, hearing screening tests, and dental consultations. There were also workshops on first aid and water rescue conducted by members of the volunteer water rescue service (WOPR).

Sports competition for MUW employees and students

The event also included competitions with the participation of the rectoral authorities, employees and students. At first, it was possible to observe a basketball game between employees and students, in which the Rector, Prof. Rafał Krenke, took part. Then, Indoor Triathlon was held. There were a lot of positive emotions, even though – as it happens in sports – someone had to lose the competition. However, a noble goal and the opportunity to do something good together counted above all on that day.

Sending our light to the sky on the walls of the Sports and Rehabilitation Center building marked the symbolic end of the event.

In a year's time, we would like to invite you again to participate in the "MUW Community for WOŚP" campaign.
