We invite you to the Night of Museums at the Museum of the History of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM)

The theme of this year’s event is the world of medicines. If you decide to spend your Saturday night with us, you will discover many fascinating things, including how antibiotic susceptibility is tested, how to recognize counterfeit medicines, and the healing properties of herbs. And this is only part of what we have prepared for our visitors. On 16 May, we warmly invite you to the Museum of the History of Medicine of WUM at 63 Żwirki i Wigury Street. Admission begins at 6:00 p.m.

Pharmacy is the central theme of this year’s event, as in 2026 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy of WUM. However, the Night of Museums program at the Museum of the History of Medicine of WUM will also explore many other fields of medical science. Expect an evening full of interactive and inspiring activities!

Check out what we have prepared for you

Lectures

At 7:00 p.m., Dr Agnieszka Kalicka from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Biomedical Analysis will speak about counterfeit medicines: the scale of the illegal trade, the ways counterfeit products enter the market, and the risks associated with their use. It will be a valuable and eye-opening lecture on an increasingly important issue.

At 8:30 p.m., Dr Paweł Kozłowski from the Department of Laboratory Medicine will present the process of blood testing—from sample collection to diagnosis—and demonstrate just how vital laboratory medicine is in saving lives.

Each lecture will last approximately 45 minutes.

Booths and educational workshops prepared by students

During the Night of Museums, visitors will learn about the healing properties of herbs and discover which plants were traditionally used to treat illnesses and relieve ailments. You will also learn about phytoncides—organic compounds produced by plants that help combat microorganisms.
Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in pharmacy compounding workshops, observe the fascinating world of bacteria under the microscope, and discover how scientists test antibiotic susceptibility. You will also explore the world of alchemy, often associated with magic and folklore, although in reality it was rooted in experimentation and the observation of nature and chemical processes.

Using training mannequins, visitors will be able to practice proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and learn the basics of surgical suturing. There will also be an opportunity to undergo basic preventive health screenings, discover the world of dental technology and oral hygiene, and learn how specialists help create healthy and beautiful smiles. Visitors brave enough to sit in the dentist’s chair will also be able to take advantage of a late-night dental check-up.

There will also be an opportunity to register in the DKMS bone marrow donor database.

Exhibitions

During the Night of Museums, you will be able to see six very interesting exhibitions that present the history of our university and outstanding figures connected with medicine and pharmacy:
