Meetings with the representatives of WUM
The visit lasted two days. On the first day, a meeting was held with Prof. Piotr Luliński, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, who showed our guest around specialized laboratories of the faculty. It is worth noting that Prof. Luciano Saso is not only the Secretary General of UNICA, but also a pharmacologist and long-standing Vice Rector of the largest university in Europe – the Sapienza University of Rome. Both professors decided to continue cooperation between WUM and the Sapienza University and undertake joint projects.
On the second day of the visit, Prof. Luciano Saso met with Prof. Michał Grąt, the Vice Rector for International Relations, Promotion and Development, Prof. Paweł Włodarski, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr Łukasz Czyżewski, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The meeting was also attended by Jarosław Kulczycki, the press secretary, and Lidia Przepióra-Dziewulska, the Head of the International Relations Office.
It is worth noting that the first meeting of professors Luciano Saso and Michał Grąt was held during this year's EUA (European University Association) Conference. The EUA is the most important European association which is the “voice” of education in the European Parliament. At that time, Prof. Saso invited WUM to join UNICA. Our university had applied for membership, and on June 25, 2026, the application was approved by the Board of UNICA at the General Assembly after analyzing the documentation and application submitted.
During the visit to WUM, Prof. Luciano Saso presented the key areas of activities of UNICA, while the representatives of WUM outlined what scientific and educational potential our university could offer.
Professor Michał Grąt emphasized the importance of the participation of WUM in organizations such as UNICA, which constitute the foundation of cooperation, exchange of experience and development of international relations.
What is UNICA?
UNICA unites universities from European capitals. These are not only the capitals of European Union countries, but also countries outside the EU, but belonging to the Council of Europe. The network was founded in 1990 and currently brings together 56 universities from 39 capitals which translates into over 180,000 faculty and administrative staff, and two million students. UNICA operates at the interface between education, politics and society. It is a platform where universities cooperate to develop knowledge, science and innovation that will serve society.
WUM in UNICA – areas of cooperation
Our university will make a significant contribution to the activities of the UNICA network. Three main areas of activities are planned:
- Research and development – participation in regular meetings of university representatives, the aim of which is to deepen international research cooperation,
- Education – organization of joint webinars and educational initiatives,
- University policy – thanks to the membership of WUM in UNICA, our university will contribute to shaping the European space of higher education.
In November 2026, Prof. Paweł Włodarski will represent our university at the Scientific and Research Conference, “Advancing Research for a Sustainable Future”, organized by the UNICA network at Ankara University.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine will participate as a panelist during the “Digital Transformation for Sustainability” session.
Campus tour
During the visit, Prof. Luciano Saso visited the Banacha Campus, including the Rector's Office, the Center for Medical Simulation, the Library and Information Center, and the Faculty of Pharmacy. Our guest was impressed with both the meetings and the teaching spaces.
The visit gave us access to new opportunities for cooperation with foreign universities, including joint research and academic exchange.
