The 1st International Congress of Cardiomyopathies

What are cardiomyopathies? It is a group of disorders which lead to heart muscle impairments. They have multiple causes and are often genetically determined. As emphasized by experts from the 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology of WUM Medical University of Warsaw, hosts of the International Congress of Cardiomyopathies, these are still not receiving enough attention. This is a mistake, considering that cardiomyopathies are being diagnosed in more and more patients, while giving the right care to patients tends to be a very demanding task.

The conference was held on March 7-8. There were nine topical sessions dedicated to this area of cardiology, most of them based on clinical cases. The conference was opened by members of the scientific and hosting committee: Agata Tymińska, Doctor of Medicine hab.; Krzysztof Ozierański, Doctor of Medicine hab.; professor Marcin Grabowski from the 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology of WUM Medical University of Warsaw, and the special guest: professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of WUM.
The event was largely popular and had a huge audience, which shows the intense need to organize more meetings that would focus on the group of cardiomyopathy patients.

Main topics and speakers at the Congress

The group of experts were debating advanced diagnostics of cardiomyopathies, genetic diagnostics, rare causes of cardiac hypertrophy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, reversibility of cardiomyopathy, and inflammatory diseases of the heart muscle.

Scientific sessions held during the Congress were sponsored by the Polish Cardiac Society Club 30, the Polish Cardiac Society Nuclear Cardiology Unit, and the Polish ambassadors at the European Heart Failure Association (HFA Young).

Guest speakers included experts from everywhere in Poland.

– We are happy that we were able to invite so many outstanding experts – Doctor Krzysztof Ozierański said. – That’s how we managed to organize a unique event with discussions on the latest therapies and treatment strategies. We are hoping to turn it into a regular event which encouraged almost 400 participants to register already in its first edition.
