Professor Aleksandra Wesołowska in the Polish President’s Council for Family and Demography

The Council has 24 members, experts in many areas such as social policy, economics, demography, and sociology. One of the scientists invited to join that body is our academic, head of the University Laboratory for Research in Human Milk and Lactation at the WUM Department of Medical Biology.

On December 2, President Karol Nawrocki has presented the deeds of nomination to Council members. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace.

“I want Poland to be the best place to live for Polish families. Establishing the President’s Council for Family and Demography is aimed at creating a space for reliable debate on everything that determines a good future for our Homeland,” wrote the President in the deed establishing the Council.

“I hope that as a member of this body I will be able to contribute to developing a demographic strategy for Poland, taking into account such important medical matters as care for the mother and child, in which I specialize as the researcher at our University,” says Professor Aleksandra Wesołowska.

The Council’s main task will be to conduct a strategic debate and analyze the circumstances faced by Polish families, as well as what the State does to support families and improve Poland’s demographic situation. The body will also prepare opinions on the situation of Polish families, prepare guidelines for and draft the President’s legislative initiatives in the area of family-supportive policy, and formulate general conclusions on matters concerning Polish families.
