The guest visited at the invitation of Prof. Aneta Nitsch-Osuch, head of the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health at WUM.
“Professor van der Linden’s visit is an important step in building partnerships for global health security,” emphasized Prof. Aneta Nitsch-Osuch. She added: “Thanks to meetings like this, students at our university gain a unique opportunity to learn from experts engaged in addressing the most difficult challenges of modern medicine.”
Challenges of contemporary epidemiology
During the seminar, which took place as part of classes in hygiene and epidemiology, the expert focused on antimicrobial resistance, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the ten greatest global threats to public health. He presented strategies for combating the so-called “silent pandemic” of the 21st century and highlighted the crucial importance of rapid infection diagnostics in resource-limited regions. He emphasized that the development of such rapid diagnostics directly translates into improved quality of patient care, particularly for children.
