What is the goal of the Olympics?
The goal of the International Olympics of Knowledge and Skills in Lifestyle Nursing in Civilization Diseases is to develop students' knowledge and skills, promote innovative solutions in nursing and the integration of the international academic community.
What the struggle was about
The first stage of the Olympics consisted in solving a 50-minute test including 50 questions on general knowledge in the field of nursing. 57 students with the highest scores were qualified for the second stage. Again, they had to complete a test, this time consisting of 45 questions, which tested the expertise in the field of lifestyle nursing in civilization diseases.
The 16 best students, representing 10 universities, were qualified for the final. They faced one of four possible realistic clinical scenarios requiring a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
During the final, communication skills were primarily assessed, including establishing contact with the patient, explaining actions taken and conducting a therapeutic conversation. The assessment of the patient's condition by measuring basic vital signs such as blood pressure, saturation, heart rate and the analysis of reported manifestations also played a key role. It was also particularly important how the participants managed the situation, i.e., how effectively students responded to changes in the patient's health and their cooperation with the treatment team.
In the competition, students were accompanied by academic teachers.
