The National Science Centre (Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN) has announced the results of the PRELUDIUM 24, OPUS 29, JPND Call 2025, and MINIATURA competitions. Eleven researchers from WUM received funding for their projects.
PRELUDIUM 24 awardees
- Magda Molenda, MSc, Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine – project titled “The role of the purinergic receptor P2X4 in the regulation of mitochondrial metabolism and redox balance in hematopoietic stem cells: observations in P2X4-deficient mice”
- Józef Lalowski MSc Eng, Department and Unit of Medical Microbiology – project titled “The effect of selected polyphenols and potential postbiotics on the modulation of the gut microbiota and the physiology of Clostridioides difficile”
- Ewelina Błażejowska, MD, doctoral student at the 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology – project titled “Non-coding RNA in the diagnosis of evolving myocardial infarction: a prospective study using next-generation sequencing.”
- Jakub Piotr Adamus, medical student completing an external doctoral program at the Department of Clinical Immunology – project titled “Gene expression, protein concentration, and redox enzyme activity in relation to trace element status in liver tissue and blood of liver transplant recipients and donors.”
JPND Call 2025 awardee
Prof. Magdalena Kuźma-Kozakiewicz, Department and Clinic of Neurology, received 893,059 PLN for the project titled “The relationship between quality of life and bulbar and pseudobulbar symptoms in the late stage of motor neuron disease: clinical determinants, screening tools, and opportunities for quality-of-life interventions”.
OPUS LAP/Weave awardee
Prof. Magdalena Kuźma-Kozakiewicz, Department and Clinic of Neurology, received 700,023 PLN for the project titled “Listening closely: the unmet needs of individuals with locked-in syndrome.” The partner institution is the University of Ulm.

MINIATURA awardees
- Dr. Szymon Jonik, 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology, whose study aims to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying differences in cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes treated with exenatide. The project received 49,983 PLN in funding.
- Dr. Natalia Dobros, Unit of Organic and Physical Chemistry, who will investigate the effect of modern extraction methods aligned with the principles of “green chemistry” on the composition of extracts obtained from Chelidonium majus L. herb and evaluate their toxicity in Danio rerio embryos. Her project received 30,800 PLN in funding.
