Students played for little patients

It was a day full of sports excitement and fierce but friendly competition. Twenty-eight teams competed for trophies in the Charity Sports Tournament of the MUW academic community. The goal was noble - to support the Ronald McDonald Foundation, operating at the Children's Clinical Hospital UCC MUW.

The tournament, which took place on November 26, was organized by the Student Government and the Academic Sports Association MUW and AZS MUW Football Section. The competition was held in the hall of the Sports and Rehabilitation Center MUW in two disciplines: football and basketball. Basketball matches were played by 10 teams - almost 40 students.
Football was played by 16 teams, with a total of 111 players. Taking advantage of the fact that the World Cup is underway, the struggles of our football players were hailed as the MUW World Championships, and each team represented one of the teams performing at the World Cup in Qatar.

The group phase of the competition began as early as 7 a.m. The first to play a football match were the "representatives" of Senegal and Switzerland, and as the last: Poland and Morocco. And it was the team from Morocco that played in the final against the players from France. In the end, the cup went to the "tricolors". In third place was Ghana, and in fourth place was South Korea. The king of scorers was David Chaterera (Brazil), who hit the goal as many as 7 times. The best player of the tournament was announced Patryk Sochania from France, while the title of the Best Goalkeeper went to Paweł Sosnowski from the Morocco team. The best-dressed team was also awarded - it was Senegal. Basketball games began at mid-day. The winner was the Pure water team. The second place went to the Weak Link team, and the third to the Destroyers squad.
An additional competition, although outside the cup, was free foul shots. Three two-person teams composed of a representative of the winning basketball team and a representative of the university authorities were throwing. Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector, Ewa Czochrowska, MD, PhD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, and Jaroslaw Prugar, Vice Chancellor for Maintenance, tested their accuracy.

And to make things more interesting, the organizers also prepared several non-match activities for the players and fans, including yoga, stretching and workshops in emergency medical services.
The result - nearly PLN 3,000 was raised for the Foundation.

The amount of excitement the tournament provided for the players and fans is best evidenced by a post on the Fb profile of the AZS MUW Football Section, co-organizers of the event: - We liked it, we hope you did too, and you don't regret the time spent on Saturday even if you didn't manage to win the prizes. Fierce matches, drama, penalty kicks, sensations and disappointments, beautiful goals and wonderful parades of goalkeepers - it was all there and even poured out all day from our beautiful hall.
