Our students with "Pro Juvenes" awards

The 10th "Pro Juvenes" Student Environment Awards Gala is behind us. This year's winners included members of the SKN at the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology MUW and Dr. Tomasz Grzywa, a sixth-year medical student at MUW.

The "Pro Juvenes" awards are an initiative organized by the Parliament of Students of the Republic of Poland. It promotes active students and their initiatives, as well as individuals and entities that are student-friendly and support the potential of young people. The first edition of the competition was held in 2013. In this year's edition, you could submit your participation in 12 categories. Two of them turned out to be victorious for our students.

The SKN at the 1st Chair and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology MUW has been recognized in the Scientific Circle category. As written in the nomination, the SKN at the 1st Chair and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology MUW is not only a scientific circle, but first and foremost a group of people united by a common passion. It has been operating continuously for more than fifty years. Its main goal is to expand gynecological and obstetric knowledge among successive generations of students. Every year the Circle takes leading places in the ranking of scientific circles of the Student Scientific Society MUW (in the academic year 2021/22 it was awarded first place in the category of clinical treatment circles). It can boast not only of numerous scientific achievements, but also of organizing the largest student gynecology and obstetrics conference in Poland, "Gynecology and Obstetrics Interdisciplinarily." Last year the event attracted about 300 people from all over the country.

In the Student Scientist category, the winner was Dr. Tomasz Grzywa, a sixth-year medical student. But the prefix "Dr." in front of his name is not a mistake. Before completing his 5th year of studies, he defended his dissertation with distinction and received a doctorate in medical and health sciences. In doing so, he became the youngest doctor in Poland. Dr. Grzywa has authored numerous scientific publications, managed research grants and executed scientific projects. In his work, he researches the mechanisms that regulate the immune system response and seeks new therapies for cancer.

The Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland, by presenting the "Pro Juvenes" awards, wants to create a good atmosphere of mutual interaction in the academic community and integrate students from all over Poland. Last year, students from the SKN of Clinical Nutrition MUW were recognized, winning in the "Social Initiatives" category with their "Doceń medyka" project. In 2020, the first place in the "student health initiatives" category was awarded to the project "Dethroning action - let's take the crown off the virus." Its coordinator was the MUW Students’ Government.
