Hats from the heart went to the little patients of oncology and hematology at the Children's Clinical Hospital

Oncological disease is a great challenge, especially when the youngest suffer. There are many such little patients at Children's Clinical Hospital MUW. To support them, give them encouragement and positive energy, volunteers from the Ronald MacDonald Foundation donated colorful, handmade hats.

This is the third edition of the "Hat from the Heart" campaign. -With our project we want to pay attention to those who often disappear from our sight through illness. Children who are ill do not go to school or kindergarten. Parents, whose lives with their child's illness move to the hospital ward, are often unable to work. Cancer takes the whole family out of normal life. A hat from the heart is a symbolic way of saying "We see you!". We donate the colorful hats in pairs - one for the child, one for the parent, because family closeness is very important in the treatment process - says Katarzyna Rodziewicz, President of the Ronald McDonald Foundation.

This year, 80 colorful kits went to the department of oncology and hematology of the Children’s Clinical Hospital. Each included two crocheted hats with the foundation's stamp and a handwritten letter. The same sets were also given to little patients from 9 other Polish hospitals and one hospital in Lviv. A total of 600 sick children were gifted.

The colorful hats were knitted by wards of the detention centers in Warsaw-Grochów, Gdańsk and Białystok, as well as the Penitentiary Institution in Goleniów - as part of their rehabilitation. In doing so, they used 130,000 meters of yarn with a total weight of 120 kilograms! As a result, 1,200 beautiful headwears were created, thanks to which smiles appear on the faces of sick children.
