Young dentists with their highly desired diplomas!

Dentists, dental technicians and dental hygienists – 144 persons in total. Happy, but slightly intimidated, the have collected the documents confirming their graduation. At the same time, this is the beginning of a new path in their lives – the desired professional work and bringing help to patients.

– You have the full right to feel pride and accomplishment. Receiving a graduation diploma is an exceptional day, not only to you, but also to us – your teachers, and our close ones – said the dean, Professor Dorota Olczak-Kowalczyk, at the event. This is the last year of graduates who finished their studies at the Faculty of Dental Medicine which teaches exclusively the representatives of dental professions. Beginning from this academic year on, the Faculty joined the Medical Faculty of our University and started to teach the students of physiotherapy, speech therapy, audiophonology and electroradiology. However, as the Dean emphasized during her speech: - The history of dentistry teaching saw plenty of such changes, and none of them proved to be an obstacle in maintaining the high quality of teaching our students.

Professor Zbigniew Gaciong, WUM Dean also gave the students words of appreciation, encouragement and congratulations. He congratulated them in graduating during the coronavirus pandemic, emphasising the tremendous work carried out during that time by academic teachers. And it proved particularly difficult in dentistry, in particular due to the role played by practical classes in the process. – I believe that, on your behalf, I can thank the teachers who put great effort to ensure that your studies ran smoothly and to ensure that the learning programme as required by the regulations and European directives, were executed – said the Dean. The teachers received great applause.
The graduates also received congratulations from dr Dariusz Paluszek, the Vice President of the Regional Medical Chamber.

One of the greatest moments of the event for the graduates is, of course, taking the oath. The oath was taken by the Deputy Deans of the Faculty, from the graduates of the medical and dentistry, dental technology and dental hygiene – Professor Agnieszka Mielczarek and from the students of English Dentistry Division – Ewa Czochrowska, PhD. Awards, distinctions and diplomas were awarded next. Golden Graduate Laurel was awarded to Patryk Michalik for an average exam grade of 4.71. He was also presented with a prize by sponsor TU INTER Polska S.A. Monika Grotowska and Anna Grotowska, graduates of the medical and dental faculties, were also recognised for their high average, as were Izabela Gowin and Wiktoria Stępień for defending their diploma theses in the dental technology and dental hygiene faculties.

„Finis coronat opus” – the end crowns the work. A work whose beginning was exactly five years ago – with these words Natalia Gniecka, the alumni representative, addressed her colleagues and other guests. I was reminded of the motto she heard at the beginning of her studies at MUW: „You have to study together, you have to help each other, because this is one of the bases for success in these very difficult studies.” – The success is ours, but we all know that it would not have happened without the work, effort, patience and empathy of the entire group of lecturers who have watched over us during these five years (...). Our success would also not have been possible without the support of our parents and loved ones – she said. Finally, she wished the graduates the best of luck in their budding careers.

The ceremony was crowned by a concert by the MUW choir directed by Daniel Synowiec.
