Where to take the first scientific steps?

It was interesting and inspiring. Nearly 70 scientific circles, and a total of several hundred students active in their structures, talked about their research and educational projects during the latest edition of the Scientific Clubs Fair. And convinced those still undecided that it's worth becoming a member of a MUW student scientific club.

The MUW Student Scientific Society has been inviting to the event for many years, at the beginning of each academic year. The Student Scientific Society (STN) brings together all the student clubs of our university. And there are more than 200 of them! - The fair is, first of all, a great opportunity for the clubs to show what they do. On the other hand, it's a chance for students to get acquainted with the rich offer of our Student Scientific Clubs and find something for themselves. And you can really do a lot within the clubs! Go on duty to see what specialization looks like in practice, write scientific publications, prepare to participate in Polish and international conferences, take part in thematic meetings - says Anna Krawczyk, president of the Student Scientific Society. And she adds that at MUW, students can be scientifically active from the first years of their studies. But the fair is attended not only by students who have just begun their studies. There are also representatives of higher years who have found that the time has come for extra-curricular scientific activity or have just found a research area that interests them. That is why several hundred students participate in the fair each time. Yesterday, October 17, the MUW Teaching Center was visited by more than 200 people.

And it was worth it, because the Student Scientific Clubs (SKN) presented a lot of interesting things. - Among other things, we showed Petri dishes filled with different types of microbiological media. In addition, at our booth, students had the opportunity to admire, with the help of a magnifying glass with double magnification, preparations with ticks and mosquitoes - listed one of the exhibitors - members of Student Scientific Club Agar, which deals with medical biology in the broadest sense of the term. And this is just one of many student offerings.

Student Scientific Clubs (SKN) members also answered many questions, including how to get into the scientific club, what valuable skills and experiences can be acquired during membership. - As a scientific club, we have been participating in this event for years, because we want to reach out to future young scientists. We show the different aspects of cardiology, and, above all, present the many opportunities for action in our Student Scientific Club - we have as many as 7 sections, we organize workshops, the "More than a heart attack" conference and regular meetings. During the Scientific Clubs Fair, students asked us questions and we tried to explain to them in the simplest possible way how to begin the adventure with science and cardiology. We are constantly open to new members and that's why it was so important for us to participate in this year's event - says Alicja Skrobucha from the Student Scientific Club at the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology UCC MUW.

And perhaps the greatest asset of the fair is the opportunity for this direct conversation, which will allow students who want to take their first scientific step to make a conscious  choice. And perhaps it will result in the idea of starting their own Student Scientific Club. As Anna Krawczyk of Student Scientific Society points out: - Scientific clubs operate in all departments of our university. If someone is missing something in our offer, every MUW student has the opportunity - quite easily - to set up their own club, corresponding to their interests. MUW students are strongly encouraged to engage in any scientific activity. A registry of all clubs active at MUW can be found on the MUW Student Scientific Society (STN) website.
