"I, do solemnly swear...". Matriculation at the Faculty of Health Sciences

Nearly 1,000 newly enrolled students in the fields of dietetics, nursing, midwifery, emergency medicine and public health, took the student oath on Thursday, October 6. Thus officially - already as students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, they began a new stage in their lives and a wonderful scientific adventure.

This year, the faculty accepted 1,335 of the best candidates out of nearly 3,400 who took part in the recruitment process. - Welcome to our thresholds. I wish you successful years at the Medical University of Warsaw - the oldest academic university in our capital. A university that, looking at you, looks to its future - Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of MUW, said to the heroes of the ceremony.

The host of the ceremony, Prof. Mariusz Gujski, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, congratulated the new students and reminded them that as future medics they will play a special role - its essence is to help the sick and suffering. Growing a profession is a great art, which involves the need to master a huge amount of interdisciplinary knowledge. This knowledge, in turn, affects the quality of future work on behalf of those in need. Hence the Dean's appeal for a responsible approach to the educational process, systematicity, treating studies with extreme care. - The best time of your life is ahead of you. Dear students, you will spend the next few years within the walls of our university. You are about to be matriculated  with its central and most important element - the oath. I encourage you to make it a fully conscious act on your part. I would very much like and wish you - Dear Students, that the content of the oath become the real determinant of your attitude throughout your studies - said Professor Gujski.

So what did the students vow to do? First - to persevere in the pursuit of knowledge and the development of their own personalities. Second - to act in accordance with the principles of ethics and keep secret everything they learn about a patient in connection with their medical studies. Third - to relate with respect to the university authorities and all members of the MUW community. And also to respect the laws and academic customs, and with all their conduct to care for the dignity and honor of a student of the Medical University of Warsaw. A choral "I vow" ended the matriculation.

The ceremony ended with a concert by the MUW Choir, directed by Daniel Synowiec. The group performed pop music songs.

The matriculation was also attended by Prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska, Vice Rector for Human Resources, Prof. Tadeusz Grochowiecki, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Joanna Peradzyńska, MD, PhD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Agnieszka Bazylko, MD, PhD, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dorota Wlodarczyk, MD, PhD, Vice Chairman of the Health Sciences Discipline Council, Prof. Michal Grąt, Director of the MUW Doctoral School, Dr. Marta Kijak-Bloch, MUW Chancellor, Jolanta Ilków, MUW Bursar, and the Vice Deans of the Faculty of Health Sciences: Prof. Robert Galązkowski, Justyna Teliga-Czajkowska, MD, PhD, Lukasz Czyżewski, MD, PhD, members of the Health Sciences Faculty Council. The invitation to the ceremony was accepted by Tomasz Slawatyniec, Director of the Health Department of the Mazovian Provincial Office in Warsaw, Bernard Waśko - Deputy President of the National Health Fund for Medical Affairs, Zbigniew Terek - Director of the Mazovian Provincial Branch of the National Health Fund in Warsaw, Zofia Malas - President of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives, Dr. Beata Guzak, Director of the Center for Postgraduate Education of Nurses and Midwives, and representatives of the MUW teaching hospitals and other health institutions.
