A new Shanghai List has been published. Once again, the Medical University of Warsaw is among the world's best universities

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), referred to as the Shanghai List, includes the top 1,000 universities from around the globe. Only 11 Polish ones are included in this year's list, and only two of them have a medical profile. One of them is the Medical University of Warsaw.

The ranking published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy takes into account several indicators - the number of graduates or staff who have received a Nobel Prize or Fields Medal, the number of authors of the most cited papers among the staff, the number of articles in the scientific journals 'Nature' and 'Science' and publications that have been included in selected citation indexes (Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index). The ranking also takes into account the range of achievements in relation to the size of the university.

The best national universities are, according to the makers of the prestigious ranking: Warsaw University and Jagiellonian University in Kraków (ranked between 401-500). In addition to the Warsaw Medical University, the second five hundred included: the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Gdańsk University of Technology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Wrocław Medical University, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Warsaw University of Technology and Wroclaw University of Technology. In 2022, the best university in the world was again Harvard University. In second place was Stanford University and in third place was the US-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
