The end of the "ice age" in transplantation?

Today in Poland, organs for transplantation are transported in ice. The maximum storage time for a heart taken from a donor is about four hours. There are already devices in the world that allow to extend this time up to 12 hours. The heart stored in such a device is constantly working and can be subjected to various treatments, nutrition or diagnostics.

According to Dr. Zygmunt Kaliciński from Department of Cardiac Surgery UCC MUW: - The purchase of THE OCS HEART device will take us from the Ice Age to the Space Age.

Foundation For Transplantation - Leave Your Heart on the Earth is the initiator of the #12HoursForLife campaign and the 12 Hours Heart of Mazury Festival. The festival and concert, under the patronage of Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of MUW, will be held on July 2 in Mrągowo. Cleo and Margaret will be the stars, but Dr. Kaliciński's band HLA4, in which the cardiac surgeon plays the drums, will also perform. The organization of the concert is supported by numerous sponsors and the Mragowo City Hall, which provides the amphitheater free of charge. Ticket proceeds go entirely towards the purchase of THE OCS HEART device.

- Such hearts, which we now assess as unsuitable for transplantation, can be carefully examined and revived in this device. We can provide everything to this heart, we can examine the condition of the coronary vessels, we can do an echo of the heart, because this heart beats all the time - says the head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery UCC MUW, Prof. Mariusz Kuśmierczyk, and adds: - Every ticket, every contribution will go towards the purchase of this device. Remember about Polish transplantology!
