MUW students among winners at the international student conference

Nine English Division students of the Faculty of Medicine presented their original research papers at the 30th International Medical Students' Conference. Five of them: Disha Keshwani, Mohammed Sameh, Ishani Khanna, Olivia Gudziewski, and Srishti Bhagat won in their respective theme sessions.

  • Disha Keshwani took first place in the Neurology & Neurosurgery session. Disha for the paper “miRNAs and extracellular vesicles as fluid biopsy biomarkers in acute ischemic stroke patients”;
  • In the Internal Medicine session, the winner was Ishani Khanna for her paper “Long-Term Follow Up of Wilson’s Disease Patients in Poland: Report from the National Reference Centre”;
  • In the Pediatrics, Neonatology Session, Mohammed Sameh was recognized in the Original Research category for his paper “Impact of COVID-19 on Pediatric-out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the Masovian Region”, while Olivia Gudziewski in the category “Pediatrics Case Report” for the work “Pancreatic Pseudocysts as a Rare Complication of Acute Pancreatitis in Children - A Comparison of Two Patients” (Ex-aequo with Jagoda Hofman for the work “The rarest of the rare – a case report of a 10-month-boy diagnosed with Ogden syndrome”);
  • Srishti Bhagat won first place in the Public Health session for the presentation of the work “Qualitative Study of Occupational Burnout Among Paramedics in Poland through the course of the COVID-19 Pandemic”.

    Julia Haponiuk-Skwarlińska - “The assessment of the modifiable predictive factors of exercise capacity improvement in patients following myocardial infarction after 3-month cardiac rehabilitation program in Poland – preliminary report on single-center experience”;
    Mikołaj Marszałek - “Circulating miRNAs as independent predictors of cardiovascular mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus”.
  • In the COVID-19 session:
    Magdalena Grochowska - “The impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown on Pediatric infections”;
    Disha Keshwani - “Thrombosis-related circulating miRnas and their importance in patients hospitalised for COVid-19”;
  • In the Basic Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology  session Karol Sadowski - “Mossy fibers morphology in the hippocampus of PTENfloxed mice, Assessment of the podophyllotoxin derivatives: KL-1, KL-2 and KL-3 on HaCaT and PBMC cells” and in the Neurology & Neurosurgery for “Eltrombopag and telemedicine as effective treatments of MDS”;

International Medical Students' Conference took place in Krakow on June 1-4, 2022. It is organized every year by the Student Scientific Society of the Jagiellonian University Medical College.
