West-East Conference and the 10th Anniversary of the Faculty of Dental Medicine

On April 7 prominent experts in the field of dentistry met at the MUW. They shared their experiences and the latest knowledge. It took place within the framework of the International West-East Conference. The scientific event coincided with the anniversary of our Faculty of Dental Medicine. Therefore, it was exceptionally festive.

Prof. Dorota Olczak-Kowalczyk, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, welcomed all the guests, and the introduction was given by Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of the MUW. - The International West-East Conference has a long tradition, this is its 15th edition. The rank of the event is reflected both by the great interest of the dental community and the invited guests, world-renowned experts - the Rector emphasized in his speech.
The lecture session was led by Ewa Czochrowska, MD, PhD, Vice Dean for English Dentistry Division and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Dental Medicine. The lecture topics were very diverse. But they had one thing in common - an emphasis on cutting edge techniques, solutions and directions. Prof. Louis Hardan from Saint Joseph University Beirut-Lebanon, spoke about his innovative idea of how to use a cell phone for high-quality communication between a prosthodontist and a dental technician. Prof. Ilia Roussou from Greece, who specializes in prosthetics and treatment of craniofacial pain, discussed the topic of splint therapy in the context of rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system. After the English-speaking lectures we had a Polish accent. Dr. Piotr Majewski from Collegium Medicum of Jagiellonian University in Krakow delivered his lecture. His lecture focused on restorative procedures in the implant-prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with advanced bone atrophy.
During the conference the topics related to pediatric dentistry also occured - a very interesting lecture was given by Professor Marie Hosey of King's College London. Her focus has been on restless children with early childhood caries.
The conference was followed by the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Faculty of Dental Medicine. It was attended by the representatives of the MUW authorities. Dean Dorota Olczak-Kowalczyk presented the most important achievements of her faculty. There were also speeches by the Rector, the President of the Student Government and invited guests. During the ceremony, important people for the Faculty of Dental Medicine were honored. These were Prof. Elżbieta Mierzwińska-Nastalska, dean of the faculty for two terms, as well as Professors Kazimierz Szopiński and Michał Ciurzyński, former vice deans. The film showing the units of the Faculty of Dental Medicine during the jubilee enjoyed great interest. The official part ended with Professor Marek Krawczyk's speech and singing of the hymn Gaudemus igitur.
