“Stream of Life" campaign at the MUW. Nearly 10 liters of blood were collected

Nine and a half liters of blood collected from 21 donors is the result of another blood donation campaign organized on the initiative of students associated in the IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch. - Blood is a life-saving substance that, despite advances in technology, cannot yet be synthetically produced. It is essential in such life-threatening conditions as massive hemorrhages, accidents, anemia or even cancer. The campaign is a response to the ever growing need for blood - stresses Piotr Kucharczyk, "Stream of Life" coordinator from the IFMSA-Poland Warsaw Branch.

The initiative, held periodically at our University, provides an opportunity to reach donors who, for various reasons, cannot come to the Regional Center for Blood Donation and Hemotherapy or its local branches. All those willing to donate blood had to fill in a questionnaire and undergo a routine examination in a specially prepared ambulance in order to detect factors that may contraindicate blood donation. Of the 46 people who signed up for the campaign, blood was collected from 21. - Donating blood is safe and does not harm your own health. Individuals with sufficiently high hemoglobin levels in their blood are qualified for the final blood collection. Thanks to the campaign, MUW employees and students had an excellent opportunity and comfortable conditions to join the community of blood donors," adds Agata Stokłosa, also a coordinator of " Stream of Life" campaign.
The "Stream of Life" is part of the Standing Program on Public Health - SCOPH, implemented by IFMSA. The campaign was co-organized by the Student Self-Government of the Medical University of Warsaw, which handed 25 sweatshirts with the MUW logo as gifts for donors. In addition, each participant received notebooks, and IFMSA volunteers prepared sweet refreshments for the blood donors.
