Our students lead the way in sport climbing

Three gold medals, one silver, second place in the general classification of women and third in the general classification of men – these are the achievements of our athletes during the Academic Championships of Warsaw and Mazovia in sport climbing and during the culmination of the championships, the Competition for the Cup of the Rector of the WMU, which took place in the Sports and Rehabilitation Center of the WMU.

competition was Wiktoria Dębkowska, a physiotherapy student, who won the climb time trial, obtaining a total result of 64.17 seconds in the two runs. Our competitor was the only one who also managed to get to the top in the “difficulty” trial.

In the “time” trial of men, Michał Wojewódzki, a student of medicine, had no equal. With a combined time of 30.56 seconds in two runs he outclassed his rivals. Stanisław Tarnowski, a physiotherapy student, who took second place in the “difficulty” competition, also did a great job.

The WMU compares excellent in the general classification of women. Our players took second place, second only to the representatives of the Warsaw University of Technology. In the general classification of men, we took third place, ahead of students of the University of Warsaw and the Warsaw University of Technology.

The decoration of the competitors was attended by the WMU Rector, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong. Addressing the participants of the championships, he said: “We have a beautiful wall and I wish it was used for competitions and not just for training. Secondly, sport climbing is an Olympic discipline that arouses great interest and is very spectacular. We believe that interest in this sport will turn into its practice.”
