Minister of Science and Higher Education’s compliments to the MUW

The rectors of the 10 Polish universities ranked in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) received a congratulatory letter from the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Przemyslaw Czarnek, in which he thanked them "for their current commitment and effort in striving for the best results of the University." Among the addressees of the letter is Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong - Rector of our University, which in this year's ranking of 1000 best universities has improved its position: it moved up two groups in relation to last year, it was also best rated among Polish medical universities.

"I am also convinced that this award will awaken still undiscovered layers of reserves in the academic communities, opening the way to further improvement, as well as determination to compete and achieve ambitious goals." - Minister Przemysław Czarnek wrote in his congratulatory letter.

Among the 10 Polish universities included in the ranking, apart from our University, are: Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, the Gdansk University of Technology, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Wroclaw Medical University, the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, the Warsaw University of Technology and the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.

The Shanghai ranking is created based on several criteria. The creators of this prestigious list take into account: the number of alumni or employees who received the Nobel Prize or the Fields Medal, the number of authors of the most frequently cited papers among the staff, the number of articles published in scientific journals of "Nature" and "Science" and publications that are listed in selected citation indexes (Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index). Also evaluated is the size of the achievements in relation to the size of the university.
