MUW rises on the "Shanghai Ranking"

The Medical University of Warsaw has improved its position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the "Shanghai Ranking," taking place from 701 to 800 in this year's ranking. Our university thus move up two groups from last year. MUW was also best rated among Polish medical universities.

There are 10 Polish universities among the group of 1000 best universities. Similarly to last year, Jagiellonian University and University of Warsaw received the highest marks (places 401-500). In the seventh hundred, next to MUW, is the Staszic University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Next places were taken by Gdansk University of Technology (ranked 801-900), Warsaw University of Life Sciences (ranked 801-900), Silesian Piast Medical University of Wroclaw (ranked 801-900), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (ranked 901-1000), Warsaw University of Technology (ranked 901-1000) and Wroclaw University of Technology (ranked 901-1000).

The top universities in the world have not changed their positions from previous years. Harvard University opens the 2021 ranking list. Stanford University came in second, followed by the UK's Cambridge University in third place. There are eight US universities and two UK universities in the top 10.

The ranking methodology uses 6 objective indicators. The following are taken into account: the number of alumni (and separately staff) who won the Nobel Prize or the Fields Medal, the number of articles published in journals of "Nature" or "Science," the number of Highly Cited Researchers and articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index based on data in the Web of Science, and per capita performance.
