Professor Piotr H. Skarżyński from the Division of Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation has been appointed to two committees of the American Scientific Society– American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2021–2022 terms: Implantable Hearing Devices Committee and Otology & Neurotology Education Committee. Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński is the only Polish member in the AAO-HNS committees.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology is the largest otorhinolaryngology society in the world. AAO-HNS committees have a broadly defined expert function: they provide consultation, develop new guidelines, policies and procedures in a given area, and promote innovative solutions. The Implantable Hearing Devices Committee focuses on aspects of implantable hearing systems (such as cochlear implants). The Otology & Neurotology Education Committee focuses on identifying educational needs in otology and neurotology, planning and conducting educational activities in this field and their evaluation.
