1st Skull Base Surgery Dissection Course and Conference

Medical University of Warsaw hosted the 1st Skull Base Surgery Dissection Course and Conference December 12-14. The international conference was held under the patronage of the Rector - Prof. Mirosław Wielgoś and the Minister of Science and Higher Education - Jarosław Gowin. The organizer was Prof. Kazimierz Niemczyk, Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and President of the European Skull Base Society (ESBS).

Those in attendance were treated to a rich program which included lectures, workshops and a live broadcast of a skull base tumor surgery. World-famous experts like Prof. Marin Jurlin, Prof. Robert Behr, Prof. Juraj Koval, Prof. Ilhan Elmaci and Prof. Gulmira Mukhadiev gave fascinating lectures on their approaches and surgical strategies in skull base surgery. Young surgeons and students were able to participate in hands-on sessions on cadaveric specimens, discussions about innovative treatment methods and new techniques of life-surgery and telemetering; while neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, maxillofacial surgeons, radiotherapists, oncologists, neurophysiologists and other specialists in diagnostics and treatment of skull base pathology engaged themselves in a vibrant exchange of experiences and ideas.

During the 1st Skull Base Surgery Dissection Course and Conference a Young ESBS Group was establishment. The Group intends to deepen the study of cranial base surgery and, with the help of the ESBS Executive Committee, develop a training program that would include participation in international internships, specialist courses and conferences.

The event was also an occasion to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation and Academic Exchange with Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (NMAPE) in Kiev. Representing Medical University of Warsaw was Prof. Lidia Rudnicka, Deputy Rector for International Affairs, Development and Promotion. NMAPE was represented by Prof. Olesya Hulchiy, Vice-Rector for International Relations and International Students Research & Training.
