Our specialists ran again in support of transplantology

A great sporting feast took place in Warsaw on Sunday - the 18th Warsaw Half Marathon. Among the more than 13,000 participants there were specialists from MUW, who used the occasion to promote the idea of transplantation. They started in T-shirts with the inscription "We run together for transplantation" in the “Radosne Organki” team, thus supporting the LIVERstrong Transplantation Foundation.

Promoting the idea of organ transplantation

The idea of organ transplantation was supported, with their presence at the run, by: Prof. Maciej Kosieradzki, Head of the Department of General and Transplant Surgery UCC MUW, and - from the same department: Paweł Studnicki, MD, Izabella Godlewska, MD, Marcin Zbytniewski, MD, as well as Prof. Michal Grąt, Head of the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery UCC MUW, and - from the same department:  Paweł Rykowski, MD, and Adam Boltuć, MD, as well as Krzysztof Zając, MA, transplant coordinator at CCH UCC MUW.

Each of our specialists ran the entire route, that is 21,097 kilometers. They were encouraged to participate by Grzegorz Perzyński, founder of the LIVERstrong Transplantation Foundation, who had a liver transplant 21 years ago - at the last minute. The transplantation took place at the clinical hospital MUW on Banacha Street. The goal of the LIVERstrong Transplantation Foundation is to spread awareness about transplantation, as well as to help people living with and waiting for transplants.

Sports emotions

The run was, above all, an opportunity to compete and test the form after winter. The half-marathon started from the Poniatowski Bridge, ran through the center of the capital, and ended at Zieleniecka Avenue and the Warsaw Stadium station. More than 13 thousand runners from all over Poland took part in the race. Everyone could choose the distance that was right for them. Prof. Kazimierz Niemczyk, Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery UCC MUW, also ran 21.097 km, taking a very high 29th place in the men's qualification in his age category (out of 270 runners).
