“Counterfeiting of medicinal products has been an important area of our research for many years. Thanks to the involvement of Agnieszka Kalicka, MSc, an expert in pharmaceutical analysis, we were able to establish cooperation with POLADA,” says Dr. hab. Joanna Giebułtowicz from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis at the MUW Faculty of Pharmacy. She emphasizes that the agreement opens new avenues to use the University’s scientific potential in public health initiatives, anti-doping efforts, and in supporting law enforcement in the fight against pharmaceutical crime.
Under the agreement, MUW and POLADA will carry out broad educational activities to raise awareness of the dangers of products of unknown origin. The cooperation will also include developing and implementing analytical methods to assess the quality of substances available through various distribution channels and used by both elite and recreational athletes.
The joint activities will lead to scientific publications, conferences, and training sessions, education for large groups of athletes, and support for agencies that pursue those who market products that threaten health and life.
The agreement was signed by MUW Rector Professor Rafał Krenke and POLADA Director Michał Rynkowski, PhD.
“An agreement with such a prestigious university marks a new chapter in the work of the Polish Anti-Doping Agency,” says Dr. Michał Rynkowski. “Although our primary focus is anti-doping in professional sports, doping is a much broader phenomenon. This is why joining forces with institutions for which public health is a priority is so important.”.
The meeting was also attended by Professor Marcin Sobczak, MUW Vice-Rector for Science and Technology Transfer; Dr. hab. Joanna Giebułtowicz, Pharm D., and Agnieszka Kalicka, MSc, from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis at the MUW Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as the spokespersons of the institutions: Katarzyna Kopeć-Ziemczyk, PhD, from POLADA, and Jarosław Kulczycki, MSc, from MUW.
