A modern method for treating brain aneurysms was used for the first time in Poland

Specialists from the Second Department of Clinical Radiology at the Central Clinical Hospital of the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw (CSK UCK WUM) performed the first endovascular brain aneurysm procedure in Poland using the innovative eCLIPs device. The patient is in good condition and remains under medical supervision while awaiting a scheduled follow-up examination.

The procedure was carried out on March 20, 2026, by Dr. Remigiusz Krysiak, together with a team of physicians from the Second Department of Clinical Radiology at CSK UCK WUM: Dr. Maciej Jaworski, Dr. Jarosław Żyłkowski, and Dr. Jakub Giziński. Expert support was provided by a distinguished specialist from Denmark, Dr. Leif Sorensen, whose experience with the technology proved invaluable during this pioneering procedure.

Benefits of the new method

The use of the eCLIPs device opens up new possibilities in the treatment of wide-neck intracranial aneurysms. These are highly complex vascular lesions for which standard endovascular techniques are extremely difficult to perform.

The introduction of this technology makes it possible to:

  • Precisely reconstruct the vessel wall at the base of the aneurysm.
  • Effectively secure lesions that previously posed major therapeutic challenges.
  • Improve patient safety while maintaining a minimally invasive approach.

Further procedures are planned

This innovative procedure was made possible through collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery at CSK UCK WUM, headed by Professor Przemysław Kunert. The synergy between interventional neuroradiologists and neurosurgeons provides Polish patients with access to the most advanced medical techniques.

Importantly, this is not a one-time event. Additional procedures using this technology are already planned in the coming weeks, enabling more patients to benefit from this treatment.
