Prof. Dame Elizabeth Nneka Anonwiu is an outstanding nurse, academic, and social activist who has made a significant impact on healthcare in the United Kingdom. Professor Anionwu is a pioneer in sickle cell care. In 1979, she became the UK’s first specialist nurse in this field and co-founded the first screening and counselling centre for sickle cell and thalassaemia.
She served as a Professor and Dean at the University of West London, where she also established the Mary Seacole Centre for Nursing Practice, promoting equality and diversity in nursing.
Her work extends beyond medicine, focusing on reducing health inequalities and supporting minority communities . She has received numerous prestigious honours, including being appointed a Dame and awarded the Order of Merit.

During the meeting, participants will:

  • listen to a lecture by Dr. hab. n. med. Anna Stelmaszczyk-Emmel on sickle cell anaemia,
  • watch a short video presenting the work and achievements of Professor Dame Elizabeth Nneka Anionwu,
  • take part in a Q&A session, during which participants will have the opportunity to speak directly with Professor Anionwu.
