A festival of opportunities for our students

This year’s Festival of Opportunities, a medical and pharmaceutical career fair featuring job openings, internships, and work experience opportunities, has come to an end. On October 28, representatives of more than 30 companies and institutions set up their booths at WUM’s Didactic Center. Visitors had the opportunity to talk to them about career prospects and trends in the job market. The representatives also offered advice on which skills to develop to meet employers’ expectations and even how to tailor a résumé to a specific job offer. The event attracted considerable interest, with more than 600 people attending the fair.

As in previous years, the event was organized by the WUM Career Office in cooperation with students from the WUM Student Government, the Health Management Student Scientific Club, and the Polish Association of Pharmacy Students. The fair is well worth attending, as it offers an opportunity to discover the wide range of employment opportunities available to future medical professionals and to make some of their first professional connections.

“There is still a shortage of events for medical students in Warsaw that genuinely bring the academic world and the job market together. The Festival of Opportunities effectively fills this gap, inspiring students to take an active approach to career planning while they are still at university,” emphasizes Dr. Jakub Sokolnicki, Head of the Office for the Quality of Education, Competency Development and Careers.

However, interest in the event is not limited to students. Employers also look forward to it, and some are already posting job vacancies on the WUM Career Office website.

Discussions and presentations

During the fair, visitors could also stop by the Q&A zone, where speakers gave presentations and engaging discussions took place. This year’s Q&A experts were:

  • Magdalena Hajkiewicz-Mielniczuk, psychologist, psychodietitian, and dietitian;
  • Adrian Bednarek, a sixth-year medical student and doctoral student at the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at WUM;
  • Anna Sankowska-Dobrowolska, internal medicine specialist;
  • Robert Rutkowski, certified addiction psychotherapist, therapist, and trainer;
  • Agnieszka Nalewczyńska, a gynecologist and owner of Estebelle Clinic in Warsaw;
  • Justyna Jończyk, a plastic surgery specialist

A better résumé and a professional photo

The Festival of Opportunities program also included the CV Up zone, where visitors could improve their résumés to meet the requirements of a specific job offer or the expectations of a prospective employer.

The Photo zone was also a popular feature, as it has been at many previous editions. Several dozen people took advantage of the opportunity to have a professional photographer take a photo for their résumé and business social media profiles, following a makeup session.
